Taro – Magimbi

Taro - MagimbiI do feel very sad these days when I visit home (Dar Es Salaam). Because I have noticed that some of our staple foods are disappearing from the market. I do not see Taro (magimbi) in vegetable and food stands anymore. May be is just the areas I am visiting or something else. Do we know how healthy taro is? Potatoes do not have as much nutrients as taro. Taro is a good source of Vitamin B6, C and E. Also is a good source of minerals like Potassium and magnesium.
According to USDA, 100 grams of boiled taro provides:

Calcium             18.0mg      2%
I hope this can help a few people to understand how healthy taro is.

Ni kweli dada Miriam, siku hizi maghimbi hayaonekani sana kwenye masoko yetu makubwa makubwa kama Kariakoo na madogo madogo kama Mtambani na M/Nyamala Mapinduzi kwa kuwa kwanza walaji wake wamepungua na hali ambayo nadhani imepelekea pia kupungua uzalishaji wake kwa wakulima ambao walikuwa wakilima kibiashara. Lakini pia, utandawazi nao umechangia kwa kiasi fulani chakula hiki kutotumika hasa maeneo ya mijini zaidi kama Dar es Salaam. Naomba kuwasilisha.

    Dada mariam, ni kweli ukisema magimbi yamepotea masokoni. Kwanza kabisa chakula hiki mara nyingi kinapatika kwa wingi wakati wa mwezi mtukufu, kwa vile ni chakula muafaka kwa kipindi hicho. Vile vile jua nalo limezidi katika kipindi kwahiyo kuna mazao mengine huwa hayapatikani kwa wingi katika kipindi kama hiki.

    Kwavile umetupatia changamoto ya virutubisho, hivyo naimani kwawale wanaoingia katika website yako wakaona kuwa kuna umuhimu zaidi wa kula magimbi watadumisha hiki chakula kwa kukinunua masokoni ili mradi wauzaji nao waone kama kinaulizwa hata kama si mwezi mtukufu.

    Tunashukuru kwa kutuelimisha, Mungu akuwezeshe zaidi na zaidi.

    Magimbi yanaafya kuliko viazi ulaya. Ndio maana nimeweka mapishi ya chips za magimbi. Ingawa si vizuri kula vitu vya kukaanga kila siku, mara mojamoja si vibaya. Sasa mtu anaweza kuacha kula chips za viazi akajaribu za magimbi.

    asante kwa kutukumbushia taste ya maghimbi!! tatizo dar wanaleta msimu wa ramadhan tu na wakati mwingine wanahifadhi ili wauze bei ghali!1 mara nyingi utapata Kisutu sokoni kule maana lile karibu ni soko la wahindi zaidi!!

    mie napenda uwaonyeshe namna ya kutengeneza wali/pilau la biriani liwe la nyama aina youyote ile!! mana ninakipenda mno hiki chakula!!

    Hii ni vibaya kusubiri ili wauze bei ya juu. Sisi huku phoenix tunapata magimbi wakati wowote ule. Pilau nimeliweka leo, lakini sio la nyama. Nimeweka pilau tupu ili wale waaiokula nyama pia waweze kufurahia. Siku nyingine nitaweka la nyama pia.
